Ascendance - Devlog 1

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing great! I have a shiny devlog for you today ❤

The early demo of Ascendance has been out for a week now! This past week, I’ve been polishing it and fixing several little issues that were found by some helpful players!

So, where do we go from now?

Now, I intend to:

  • Keep following the players’s experience on Itch and Tumblr to fix issues that might come up;
  • Implement a static character profile containing your MC’s info, tips and probably an unlockable summary of the story. This is for the players that might be coming back to play after a while! (You’ll probably have to start a new game for these to take effect, but I’m thinking it’s a nice feature to have in the future ^^);
  • Start implementing a dynamic and personalized profile to showcase info regarding the division you chose. This one will update throughout the story;
  • Finally, I absolutely need to know your MC’s range of height! My head, I swear. So that’s also a (quick) feature to implement! 🤣

All of this is regarding the game’s structure only, and that’s what I’ll be focusing on until the next log.

While I do that, I’ll also be learning how to code with Twine a little more efficiently (complete newbie here!) since, right now, this is how it’s going:

As for now, my devlogs will come out biweekly, and in these I’ll let you know exactly how it’s going! I’d do it weekly, but my professors/employees seem to think my day has 36 hours, somehow! lol

I’m also planning the next steps of the story as I go, because I simply can’t stop thinking about Ascendance, haha. So, you’re likely to get some (completely self-requested) lore, fun facts or decisions regarding the story here and there!

There’s something important I’ll mention! After giving it some more thought, I am currently leaning towards wanting to release Ascendance as a full game instead of making chapter releases. To be honest, I feel like making it that way will speed up the process by a lot, since the proof-reading, testing and bug fixing I’ll have to do will come all at once.

Of course I’d still be tracking your reactions to the full game, fixing and adding features that might make the experience better for you, within what’s possible!

This is a decision I’ll be considering for a little while longer, but I have a feeling that’s how it’s gonna go. Even as a player, I enjoy it a lot more when I have the full story on my hands and can explore it as I wish!

Thank you for your attention! And for tagging along in this journey!

Take care of yourselves! ❤

Lou
