Ascendance - Where do we go from here?

Hello, ❤! 2022 is here and, for better or worse, it seems like we're all feeling some type of way about it, huh?

On that note, I know you're not my partner, and I also don't mean to scare you, but... Can we talk? lol

As you've probably noticed, I've been mostly away this past month.

I did put a pause on working on the game to deal with my finals and then went away to enjoy the festivities with my family and friends (very safely due to COVID, kay? ^^).

I'm now on a break from school and only working, which gives me quite a few extra hours to work on the game. However, I'm currently struggling with one other aspect: motivation.

Damn inertia... It's been hard to find it in me to go back to writing/revamping the game after what feels like so long.

Even so, I'm sure I'll come around eventually, and right now finishing the drafts of the Tumblr asks I've abandoned looks like a potential start,😅.

In short, my current plan is to:

  • Set a rough time limit for writing every day and stick with it (up to December, I'd write for several hours some days, while not writing at all in others);
  • Change part of my creative process (I'll leave this one vague, hihi);
  • Change the software I use to write (my google docs for each route grew to be so messy with the new content that it's hard to gather the will to even look at it, lol);
  • See if the abovementioned works and come back to tell ya ;).

The one thing that is certain is that I'll change my approach in how I work on the game and that I will keep you up to date as I create my new way around it.

Speaking of sharing, I'd like to seriously thank all of you for making 2021 such a cool year in many ways!

It was a joy coming out as a writer (I know), especially while having so many lovely people consistently making me feel like I can crash in a small cabin in their hearts from time to time, for free!

I hope you'll remember that, as ghostly as I may seem online, I'm always around; Exactly like that annoying pimple that will pop up from time to time and remind you that some things are simply constant.

That's about it for now. And of course, my lovely little plants:

take care of yourselves and drink water! 💖

I dont know if it will be of any help to you, but for myself, I find that I actually get more writting, and other creative things done, when I only have a certain amount of time I can give to them.  For example, at one of my last jobs, I found that I got excited and wrote ALOT of partial scenes and story boarding for a game i was working on, when I could sneak 30 mins or so of it in, sitting in my office waiting for clock out time to go home.  In fact it even motivated me to work harder to get all the things i needed to get done for the job that day done, to get those precious few minutes.  By contrast when I was in between jobs, with alot of hours to fill, I just didnt feel motivated to be creative.  I had all the time, but couldnt muster up any desire.

Of course, that could just be a quirk particular to myself.  I havnt had a chance to discuss with alot of other writers how they get their motivation up and get productive!  Still I hope that sharing it helps one way or another.  If nothing else at least you know your not the only one who has trouble in that regard.

Hey, Ahn! Thanks for leaving your thoughts.

Turns out I really relate to you, truly, haha.

I'm starting to get busier and busier and, funnily, my hopes of working more and better on this project have gone up!!

Why are human beings so weird?

Anyways, I do feel less alone on the matter, so thanks again!

Hope you're having an amazing day <3

I think that a lot of writers get that feeling when they've been away from writing for a while. I get anxious, because I miss my characters and my stories, but at the same time, I find it hard to write. My solution is usually to write some notes about the next section I'm working on, and that often helps me get going (but not always). I hope you find what works for you. I've been thinking about this story kind of often recently, and I wish you luck in your work on it.

Hey, you! I relate 100% to you in that feeling. It's a rough spot to be!

That sounds like a super useful tip, though. Thanks a lot! I'll try it 💖

I hope it helps! I think it is a little better than working on backstory or editing, since both of those can keep you from doing any new writing. Of course, they both need to be done, but I usually try to wait until I've finished a new chapter before going back to work on editing. Backstory... well, I usually try to have most of it done, but there always seems like there is more that I could do.
